Car keys and fobs
Today’s car keys need cutting and programming
Most modern car keys have a transponder chip that must be programmed to your vehicle, and push-to-start fobs have to be paired with the car’s computer before it will start. A key that’s only cut, not programmed, will open the door but won’t start the engine.
Our mobile setup includes key cutting machines and programming equipment for most makes and models. We can make a key when you’ve lost every copy, add a spare to your ring, or replace a broken key shell or fob.
What we handle
- Lost all keys, no spare
- Spare and duplicate keys
- Transponder (chip) keys
- Laser-cut and high-security keys
- Remote head and flip keys
- Push-to-start smart fobs
What to have ready
A government-issued photo ID and proof of ownership, such as the registration, title or insurance card, with a matching name. We check these before cutting or programming any key.
How it works
A new key without a tow
- 01
Tell us about the vehicle
Share the make, model, year and whether you have any working key. We’ll confirm we can make it and give you a quote.
- 02
We cut and program
At your vehicle, we cut the blade and program the chip or fob so the car recognizes it.
- 03
Test and go
We test the key in the doors and ignition before we leave. Pay on completion.
Why use a locksmith instead of the dealership?
We come to you, so you don’t need a tow, and we can usually make the key the same day. Dealerships often need the vehicle on their lot and may have to order the key.
Can you make a key if I’ve lost all my keys?
Yes, for most vehicles. We can cut a new key from the lock or vehicle information and program it on site.
Can every car key be made on site?
Most can. A small number of vehicles, including some late-model European models, require dealer-only programming. We’ll tell you up front if yours is one of them.
My key fob stopped working. Is it the battery?
Often, yes. Try a fresh battery first. Our guide explains what to do when your key fob dies.
Should I rekey my house if my whole keyring is gone?
If your house keys were on the same ring, especially with anything showing your address, it’s a good idea. See lock rekeying.
